Effortless Balance Measurement: With the COG Stand, you can easily determine the optimal balance point for your pinewood derby car. Leave your wheels and axles in place, and position the rear wheels directly over the built-in ruler. Once your car is perfectly balanced on the stand, read the measurement right below the rear axles to find the COG of your car. COG Recommendation: Achieving the right COG is crucial for peak performance. Our recommended COG settings are as follows: Wood Track, no alignment consideration: 1-1/4 inches Wood Track, Rail-Riding: 1 inch Aluminum track, no alignment consideration: 7/8 inch Aluminum track, Rail-Riding: 3/4 inch (although better performance may be attained with a COG closer to the rear axle, around 5/8 inch or so). Keep in mind that this may reduce front wheel tracking, potentially affecting performance near the finish line. It's advisable to use a more aggressive balance point when a test track is available to ensure optimal performance. Easy Weight Adjustment: To achieve the desired COG, you'll need to add ballast weight both behind and in front of the rear axle. A recommended starting point is to place 1/3 of the added weight behind the rear axle and 2/3 in front. If necessary, you can also place weight above or across the rear axle, using an underbody weight plate. Simple Assembly: The COG Stand arrives disassembled, but assembly is a breeze.Bend the edges in, snap in place. No addiitonal anything needed.
