Product Description
The majority of US Army infantry troops received during World War II the complex combination package M1928 Haversack and the combat braces system in which they carried all their personal equipment and ration in the field. A nearly identical M1910 Haversack was used in World War I. The removable outer pocket (meat can bag) contained the dinnerware with slotted knife, spoon and fork). In theory, it could be separated, although this has rarely been done. The two metal eyelets on the side are used to attach the bayonet sheath. The main carrying compartment of the backpack was formed by bringing the two sides together and with straps and buckles passed through a webbing sewn to the back of the bottom flap of the compartment. The bottom flap could be lowered or pulled up to adjust the depth of the main carrying compartment, and the sides could be pulled closer together or spread further apart to adjust the width of the carrying compartment. Although it was a highly customizable system and was well constructed to securely secure combat loads of different sizes so they did not bounce around, the main carrying compartment was open at the bottom of the left and right sides. Obviously, small items could easily fall out if not packed so that they would be secured in large items. (Example: wrap your shaving treatment in your extra socks and your extra socks in your extra shirt and your extra shirt in your raincoat.)
